Our Shed got a big headstart in November 2024 with the formalization of an agreement with Beacon Community Services, who offered us access to a fully-equipped Woodworking Shop in their Shoal Centre in Sidney.

OUR MISSION:
Our small group has focussed so far on getting to know each other, and deciding what activities we would like to work on collectively. We are committed to support each other and make a positive difference in our community by applying our skills and knowledge on meaningful projects which help others.

OUR MAIN ACTIVITIES:
Some of the things we have done so far include:

  • helping seniors clean out their garage and basement workshops in preparation for downsizing.
  • helping seniors sell or donate tools they no longer use.
  • building small items like puzzle boards, shelving units, outdoor planters, bird houses, mason bee houses, candle-holders for sale or donation to people in need.

Our membership has remained small so far, and currently comprises fewer than 10 regular members.
One of our limiting factors is the capacity to work together at the Shoal Workshop; there are only 5 workstations, and the Centre’s rules allow only 6 persons working in it at one time. We are working with them to expand that capacity and hope to have up to 8 workstations total within the year, which will allow us to expand membership.

In summer 2025, we were able to help the Shoal Centre with a couple of seniors’ residence fix-its and clean-ups, and helped the Shop Coordinator with some minor update renos in the shop.

In fall 2025, we built a number of craft items to sell in their annual Christmas Craft Fair to raise money for them and our Shed account.
